One of my favorite summer treats at family cookouts is grilled asparagus. Research has shown that asparagus contains saponins that have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Saponins in food are also associated with improved blood pressure and better control of blood fat levels. This vegetable contains inulin, which is a prebiotic and may help the digestive tract. Asparagus is also a wonderful source of Vitamin K, folate, copper, selenium, and various vitamins. For us. And for our pets.
Maybe let your dog sneak a stalk next time this tasty veggie makes it onto your plate?
Both my Golden Retriever and Chocolate Lab LOVE asparagus! As soon as they spot a stalk in the garden, they are after it.
My dogs LOVE asparagus! It’s served either parboiled or slightly steamed. Some veggies come from outside the US, like Mexico, where human feces is sometimes used as a fertilizer. I also do not trust our own food supply. Other veggies they enjoy are zucchini, parsnips, carrots, turnips, brussle sprouts and a little sweet potato 🙂
