Thanks for this awesome question!! If your cat will eat canned food, that is an awesome start – sometimes with kitties, that is the biggest battle, simply the switch to canned. If your kitty will eat canned, then here’s my order of preference: human food – meats – cooked super lightly in a little olive oil just until the pink comes out (or feed it raw IF your cat will eat it, IF you aren’t grossed out and IF it is premium quality solid meat), canned foods – grain free is best. It is difficult to find high quality canned food at either the grocery store or the pet superstore. The specialty pet stores have much better selection of quality foods. Call them first and check on whether they have cat goodies.
Last choice, if you are in a pinch and the grocery store is the option of the day: canned pate – get the loafs, not the shreds. These loaf-style canned foods are at least the right mix of nutrients. Most of the other canned foods at the grocery are not worth getting for your baby. One last point on feeding your food – like your chicken – there is a lot of controversy about adding nutrients for cats – human meat has the nutrients in it – variety is the key.
I sure hope this helps and gives you a good start.
