With the right personality, a cat can walk on a leash. I have even met a therapy cat who goes to nursing homes to provide comfort to the residents! There are a few things to do differently on leash to keep cats safe.
First, use a harness. The last thing we want is our kitty slipping out of her collar and running away – cats don’t come back the same way dogs do when they escape. Second, get your kitty used to the harness over time, just like we do with dogs and their collars. Then, practice. Start small, work your way up to outside.
Cats are independent creatures, so even the earthiest of cats still needs its space and time to explore on his terms.
My cats behave themselves just like my dogs do. No jumping on the counters, tables or on my knick-knack shelves. They are a joy to be around and seek attention and give as much love as my dogs. I don’t know what I would do without them. They also learn to walk on leashes and whenever they go with me, they are secured with a harness. They love to travel with me. I also start them when they are young… I have found that older cats are more resistant to leashes, but if you follow them where they want to go…….( I guess they kind of walk YOU around) yes, cats still are cats I guess…….
