There are many, many possible causes for this. So, let me go through a few of the most possible.
First, how long has it been? If everything else seems to be “normal” with your pet, it’s okay to go up to 24 hours without eating. It’s possible he has the flu.
Of course, look for missing toys. It’s possible one has been ingested, and now has an intestinal obstruction.
Next, check his temperature. (Normal is 101-102.5.) If you don’t have a thermometer to use, check her ears. They should be warm close to the head, cool at the tip. If they’re warm all the way to the tip, it’s possible your little guy has fever. If so, get your pet to the veterinarian. (If your pet is a puppy who isn’t fully vaccinated, you could be dealing with Parvo. RUN to your veterinarian’s office!)
If there is any vomiting or diarrhea, lift up the skin on the back of his/her neck – it should instantly go back down. If it doesn’t, they could be dehydrated. Call your veterinarian and tell them the situation.
Of course, your dog could just be finicky – he’s trying to tell you something about that yucky kibble someone keeps sticking in his dish! (I think he’s saying, GO TO www.dinnerpawsible.com and whip me up something worth eating
Puppy want eat nothing or drink water for the last few days. Will not get out her bed .
One puppy died yesterday from the same symptoms
Expect the one that died was throwing up and had blood in it poop
The puppies can have several different viruses that cause this: coronavirus and parvovirus are most common. There are some bacterial infections that can cause this. And some intestinal worms that are so small you can never see it in the poop, they can cause this. My advice is to take the puppies to a veterinarian for diagnosis so it doesn’t happen to all of them
I have a Maltese and all of a sudden, he has not been eating. He has all of his shots except for Bordetella, because it ran out. So I was wondering if that was the case. We tried to feed him treats, a bone, his favorite wet dog food and even dry, but he will just stare at it and walk away. Whenever we sit on the couch, he will just sit on your lap and not move a muscle. When I felt his ears, they were cold from the top to the bottom. Do you know what is wrong with him?
A problem due to out of date kennel cough (Bordatella) vaccine would be cough and maybe a fever (warm ears), and occur most likely after going to a dog park, dog kennel, or groomer.
What you are describing is different. Something else is wrong. Is he drinking water? Using the bathroom? Vomiting? Your dog may have pain, he may be sick – I recommend you take him to your veterinarian for evaluation. This could be quite serious.
I have a tcup yorkie when we her she eat everything we gave her and now she is 10 months and doesnt want to eat anytjing she is vomiting and her stomach is growling but refuses to eat what can i do i dont want her to pas away
If she’s vomiting then the best course of action would be to take her to your veterinarian. She is quite small and very fragile!
My 3 yr old havanese has refused to eat his food for 2 days. His activity has also changed. All he wants to do is to remain close to my side and has been slepping most of the time .
How long should I wait before taking him to the vet ? And how many meals can he miss before it becomes a dangerous situation? We usually feed him canned dog food (Pet Guard) which was recommended by my vet. I also have two border collies on the same food and they have had no similar symptoms.
Please advise.
I usually recommend the same rule of thumb as for our two legged children. Most of us would not wait longer than two days to get our two legged children to the doctor if our kids haven’t eaten, so basically it’s the same thing. You are right to be concerned and it sounds like it’s time to head to your veterinarian
My dog won’t eat he lost his sitter 6 weeks ago, now she won’t eat , I cook her up eye she had a bite, then rice, hot, dogs, nothing. Little hamberger she ate looks like she’s lost 30-400 lbs.. I got can food wheat etc free nope nothing what do I do? She border collie ake, help
Very serious! I would get them to your veterinarian immediately for blood work and more diagnostic testing
I have an American bully girl I think she’s pregnant she’s one years old an it’s only been today that she won’t eat or drink an for the past week she vomits after she eat an today she had a really loose stool but she’s still playful. Wat should I do?
This could be anything from pregnancy toxemia to infection in her uterus. I’d suggest going to your veterinarian right away
