When your cat (who you used to not be able to keep OFF the counters) stops jumping up there… it can be concerning.  We may start to ask ourselves questions like:

.

  • Is he blind?
  • Is he just getting old?
  • Maybe he’s just finally settling down?
.
These are all stories we tell ourselves to explain this change in behavior.  We don’t want to think that there’s a problem. Even though our cat is getting older, we haven’t been told about age related changes in cats. You know, things like arthritis.
.
You hear about arthritis in dogs. Well… and people too- of course. But not as much is said about cats and arthritis. Cats absolutely get arthritis! As cat owners we’re really used to our cats being flexible and very very nimble. If all of a sudden our cat isn’t being flexible and nimble anymore, it means the body isn’t moving as fluidly as it did when our cat was young.
.
I’m going to pull out that car analogy again: Cats are fast moving nimble race  cars. Like a McLaren. (That’s a cool car!)
.
Well, a cat should move just like a McLaren. If all of a sudden that McLaren can’t take a curve, what do you think the car driver is going to do? That’s right. Get it aligned. Check the tires. Check the wheels. Check the tread for wear. All those things that make that car move like the beautiful machine that it is.
.
What does that mean with our cats? That their body needs to be aligned, too!
.
Cats are beautiful chiropractic patients. Their neck adjusts all the way down. Due to their flexibility it’s possible to feel every bone in their body and put motion back into those joints.
.
Checking that the toenails are properly groomed and not growing into the foot pad helps.
.
And even the tail can be adjusted. That’s their spoiler. Keeps their car moving in the correct direction.
.
So if your cat is no longer jumping on the counter, and has all of his or her life, it just might mean that he has experienced far too much gravity and needs that body lined back up.
.
Cat chiropractic. Woohoo!

Still seeing patients in Tampa, Clearwater, and virtually.
