Tea Tree WHAT?!?

Tea tree oil has been used for centuries with the Aboriginal peoples to clean wounds and prevent infections. It has steadily grown in popularity and now many all around the world recognize this powerful shrub and appreciate its cleansing properties. During World War II, producers of tea tree oil were exempt from military service until enough of the plant had been cultivated and oil processed. The tea tree oil was then distributed to soldiers for use on topical infections and battle wounds.

Tea tree has a distinct, fresh, camphor-like scent that some may not care for, but it isn’t overpowering and the benefits certainly outweigh the scent. Tea tree oil has powerful anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, making it an excellent ingredient to treat rashes and skin abrasions. Tea tree oil also has analgesic (pain relieving) properties. It can be used directly on cuts or added to other skin-nourishing ingredients to further enhance the benefits when applied to the skin.

Some of the pet ailments typically treated with tea tree oil include:

  • Bug bites
  • Rashes
  • Ear infections
  • Bites from other animals
  • Wounds
  • Skin abrasions
  • Fungal infections
  • Dandruff
  • Burns
