Chamomile is widely known for its ability to ease stress, reduce anxiety and relieve nervous tension. Its pleasant, soft aroma is also appreciated. Many drink chamomile tea to relax and encourage restful sleep. But chamomile isn’t just good for us, it’s got some amazing properties for your dog too!

There are two primary types of chamomile: Roman Chamomile, which is most often used in herbal medicine, and German Chamomile, which has a telltale blue color to the essential oil, due to the high levels of azulene. German Chamomile has many benefits, but is often passed over for its cousin, Roman Chamomile in natural health products due to its high cost.

Chamomile has antimicrobial and wound-healing properties. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to treat minor injuries or skin irritations. It also can be used to expel worms.

Some dogs with gastrointestinal issues including nervous stomach, indigestion and gas may benefit from a diluted chamomile tea or chamomile tincture. Check with your veterinarian to determine if this might be a good option for you and your pet.

Does your pup have anxiety issues? Try these tips before resorting to medication.

Give him a bath with our Shampoo (use the Lavender scent for extra calming!) and use the Refreshing Spritz on the pup and on bedding to create a calming, soothing environment. Chamomile is a mild sedative and anxyolitic, which means it reduces anxiety. This natural approach may be all your dog needs to calm down and live stress free!
